Anti-reflective coating

Cuts reflections on the lens surface. Genuinely helps with night driving and screens.

Photochromic (Transitions)

Clear indoors, darker outdoors. Mostly stay clear in the car — windshields block the UV that triggers them.

Polarized

Filters glare off water, snow, and wet roads. Can make phone screens look blotchy.

UV protection

The one with the strongest evidence behind it. UV exposure is cumulative and permanent — and it's often included at no extra cost.

Blue-light filter

Sold hard, but large trials find no benefit for eye strain or sleep. Screen fatigue is mostly about blinking less — try looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. Ask us before paying extra.

Everyday pair

Your main Rx — the one you reach for first.

Backup pair

Same Rx, kept aside. Worth it if a break would leave you unable to drive or work.

Sun protection

Rx sunglasses or photochromic. UV exposure adds up over a lifetime and doesn't reverse — if you add one thing, add this.

Task pair

Tuned to one distance you sit at for hours — a workbench, a music stand, a monitor.

Fit matters more than style.

Your prescription's optical center has to line up with your pupils. Style catches your eye — fit is what makes you actually see well.

Pupillary distance (PD)

Optical center of each lens has to sit exactly where your pupils are.

Frame width

Matches your face — no pinch, no slide.

Bridge fit

Adjustable pads or saddle bridge depending on nose shape.

Temple length

Curves gently behind the ear — no press, no slip.

Anti-reflective coating

Reduces glare on the lens surface — useful for screen time and night driving. Looks almost identical to clear lenses, with a faint blue or green sheen on the surface.

Photochromic lenses

Darken outdoors in UV light and clear indoors. Worth knowing: most stay clear in the car, because windshields block the UV that triggers them. The preview here is a visual approximation — the real reaction is gradual. Common brand: Transitions.

Polarized lenses

Filter horizontal glare off water, snow, and wet roads — the one most people notice immediately. Trade-off: they can make phone screens and some dashboards look dark or blotchy.

Mirror coating

A reflective metallic finish on the outside of the lens. Mostly cosmetic, but does reduce light intensity for the wearer.
