Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Template for review. This policy is a working draft. Have it reviewed by counsel (including Illinois BIPA and any applicable health-privacy obligations) before public launch.

VOE (“Visual Optical Experience”) provides a branded, camera-based eyewear virtual try-on experience for eye-care practices. This policy explains what information is involved when you use a practice’s VOE storefront or the VOE management dashboard.

The camera try-on

The live try-on is powered by Fitting Box and runs entirely in your browser. Per Fitting Box’s published terms, the camera image is processed live on your device and is not stored; no 3D facial reconstruction, facial geometry, or other biometric identifier is collected or retained. You are asked to consent before the camera starts, and you can decline and browse without it.

Illinois (BIPA) notice

Where the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act applies, we and our technology provider do not collect, capture, or store biometric identifiers or biometric information through the try-on. No such data is sold, leased, or disclosed. If any biometric processing is introduced in the future, it will be preceded by specific notice and written consent and governed by a published retention and destruction schedule.

Information we handle

  • Patients/visitors: anonymous engagement events (page views, try-ons, saves) tied to a random session identifier — no name, email, or account. Frames you “save” live in your browser for the session.
  • Email you choose to send: if you email yourself a saved list, we use your email address only to deliver that message.
  • Practice staff: account details (name, email, hashed password, role) needed to operate the dashboard.
  • Practice content: inventory (frame identifiers/UPCs), branding, and settings the practice provides.

How information is used

To run and secure the service, deliver the try-on, show practices anonymous engagement insight, send transactional email you request, and prevent abuse.

Service providers

We use Fitting Box (try-on), Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Vercel Blob (image storage), and Resend (email). Each processes data only to provide its function.

Cookies & local storage

We use strictly-necessary cookies for sign-in sessions and browser storage for the try-on session and saved frames. We do not use advertising trackers.

Retention & security

Anonymous analytics are retained in aggregate; account and practice data are kept while the account is active. Data is encrypted in transit, access is role-scoped and tenant-isolated, and passwords are stored hashed.

Your choices

You can decline the camera, browse without saving, and request access to or deletion of account data by contacting us.
